From my previous post you can see I made a baby quilt for a friend who'd just had a baby. Well I have another friend who had a baby a couple of months ago and I didn't make anything for her. She's in Australia and cuz it's winter there now I thought that it would be a cool idea to make her baby something that will keep him warm. So I ended up with this cute little hat. I used cotton yarn for this.
I hadn't crocheted in a long time so I'm afraid I may have messed up a little but in general I like how it turned out. I still have a little yarn left so I may make something else.
For the pattern I used Cheri Hat Pattern by Jennifer Harrell, eliminating the flower. I found the pattern on this page of All Crafts website. There are lots of free patterns there, love that site. I also like that you can preview the patterns (I hate when the links to patterns are given without preview pic, you end up looking through everything, and I usually go somewhere else in this case).Yanahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08874857412088096848noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2854674854116040217.post-27883219707720151212015-05-21T01:04:00.001-07:002015-05-21T11:16:41.517-07:00A baby quilt for my friend and Blogger's Quilt FestivalAfter I made my first quilt (doll quilt) I wanted to go ahead and do the second one for my other daughter. But something kept coming up. Then my friend had a baby boy and I imidiately thought that I need to make her son a quilt. And I did. I used the fabric that I already had - some were scraps and some were fabrics I'd bought but didn't have a chance to make anything with. I came up with the combination quickly (this is the part I was most afraid of, I always thought it was complicated science revealed to the chosen, lol turns out its not so bad). I took out what I thought would go well for a baby quilt, and honestly returned half of it back and started looking more. I looked online for inspiration. And then I remembered that babies like to look at bright patterns and it helps their development. And I had the right fabrics in my stash. I cut the squares (roughly to fit the batting that I had) and after 15 mins of arranging them I came up with the pattern that I liked. Then I went ahead and whipped the quilt in a matter of hours. The finished size was around 32"×43".
I was browsing through the quilting blogs and came across Amy's Creative Side website which is hosting the Blogger's Quilt Festival - Spring 2015. I decided to enter my baby quilt into the Small Quilt category
I have been interested in quilting for a long time but I wasn't confident in myself thinking it was a complicated craft that needed supplies that I didn't have access to in UAE. Then shops like Craftland opened but I still wasn't sure I'd be able to master it. I still thought it was too complicated to piece all those fabric pieces then add the batting and then quilt it. I thought it was touch. Years passed. Then I just sat down, last week, and did it. My first project was a doll quilt for my daughter. It turned out much much better than I had expected.

It has its flows but I was surprised how easy it was. And I can't tell who was happier - me or my daughter. Now I have to do one more for my other daughter.

I wish I'd taken pics on how I did it but I was still in the exploring stage.

I live in Dubai and love to garden (that's what I blog about on my other blog) and I love crafting. I sew mostly but love other crafts like crochet as well. We have a few craft bloggers in UAE and since the more the merrier I decided to join the ride. I hope to document my crafting journey as well as share information about crafting deals, where to get supplies, fairs etc.
